5 thematics itineraries made with a selection of the materials produced for the big exhibition Napoli, musica ininterrotta (“Naples, uninterrupted music”) held in Naples, Villa Pignatelli, on the occasion of the centenary of the Alessandro Scarlatti Association illustrating its activity and highlighting its constant harmony with the city of Naples, with its fears, courage, rage, enthusiasm, and history. This project has been strongly supported by the Campania Region, and its realisation has been entrusted to Scabec – Società Campana Beni Culturali in collaboration with the Polo Museale della Campania of the Italian Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities and Tourism and the Alessandro Scarlatti Association.
In a counterpoint between social history and music – drawing from the great literature, visual arts, cinema and theatre – the exhibition has given substance to the idea that music is a form of government and organisation of civil life, an intangible cultural heritage of the city, an instrument for the establishment of a community based on values and behaviours that shape its identity. At the core of this project are the words and deeds of a protagonist of 19th century Naples: Emilia Gubitosi. Along with Maria De Sanna, Salvatore di Giacomo and many other men and women of culture, she was able to turn into reality an “autumnal dream”: creating the Alessandro Scarlatti Association.
The itineraries leads us on a journey through time, following the trails of music, organised on
different levels, both physical and narrative, presenting the first 100 years of the Alessandro Scar-latti Association, nestled in the social and cultural history of the city of Naples. An immersive path, an ideal route between reality and fantasy, where the visitors discover a world made of notes and words, lights and memories, populated with fragments of theatre sets and images that give sub-stance and historical dimension to the music of a city.
